'Family' Interactive Canvas

Hi everyone,
Today I am showcasing a new paper line by Quick Quotes called "One Fine Day." With these papers, I decided to create an interactive home decor piece. I used my Spellbinders Grand Caliber machine along with the 'Creative Book Pages' Grand diecuts to create my flip up pages.

I used a 10x10x1 canvas, then I used 3 diecuts from the 'Creative Book Pages' nestabilities to create different layered pages. I scored each page at 1/2" to create the binding for my album. I adhered them to the back side of the canvas so that when the last page is flipped up I have a shadow box :)

On the cover I added corrugated chipboard, a Petaloo flower, QQ frosted butterfly, cream ribbon & I cut the Precious Family rectangle from the word & phrases sheet included in the paper line. Throughout the project I also used various QQ inks: Mocha Mama, Green with Envy & Bloody Mary.

For my first flip up pages I used some corrugated chipboard, a Martha Stewart Punch & some of the Quick Quotes adhesive backed glitter chipboard pieces. I then scrunched some ribbon across one part of the page.

For these next pages I used a QQ diecut frame. I also used more of the glitter chipboard pieces and added various bling. "Family is..." also cut from the word & phrases paper.

For the last pages I used the negative piece from one of my flip up pages as the background to mat around my shadow box. I decorated the inside with Petaloo flowers. The 'Forever' journaling spot is also included on the 12x12 word & phrases sheet in the paper pack.

'Cutie' layout

Happy Saturday everyone!

Here is a layout featuring my precious baby, Ethan :) I used Quick Quotes newest paper line called "One Fine Day." It is being released at Winter CHA in a few short weeks. I love the muted color hues.

In this photo Ethan was just 9 months. I am working on his first year album and am pretty close to being caught up. He is currently 11 months old. The rest of his album can be found at the tab at the top of my blog.

Items used: I added chipboard letters from Crate paper and the clear transparency journaling block from Oriental Trading Co. I also added a few buttons & twine, plus some black rhinestones between the flags to finish off my layout. To create my frame around Ethan I used my Spellbinders Grand Caliber machine along with the 'Creative Book Pages' die cuts. I used the negative of one of my pieces as the frame which is also embossed around the edges. The paper & quote are both from Quick Quotes.

'Flying' - double page layout

'FLYING'

Here is a fun, double-page layout I created with the newest paper line from Quick Quotes - SUMMER SAMBA. I love all of the bright colors. They made the perfect background for my son's first flying trip with daddy. He came prepared with his pilot's notebook, headset and sunglasses. He had a great time from wheels up to wheels down and can't wait to go again.

I changed the title by adding an 'L' to make it 'ALTITUDE' :) This also shows the distressing of my blue & red papers, as well as, my Spellbinders Creative Page Tabs up close! I used my die cuts to make decorative tabs on some of my photos.

Family memories - single page layout

Happy 2012!!!

To kick off the new year I've been scrapping my 2011 pictures :) Here is a layout using Quick Quotes newest paper line called "Dreamscape."

The QQ design team was lucky enough to be sent a Spellbinders Grand Caliber die cut/embossing machine. I used the 'Labels 1' Grand dies to make the nesting shapes behind my photo. Then I used my 'Wonky Rectangles' to make the mats behind my vellum. I love this machine. Not only does it cut, but it also embosses! This pic shows the imprinted design around the edges.

To jazz up some of my cardstock, I added some liquid glass to the pre-printed flowers.

Christmas Eve! Some layout goodness!!!

Interactive Layout

Nolan is now 4 and truly understands Santa's role this year. It is a very exciting time for us and there has been lots of baking gearing up for the special plate we're leaving for Santa & his reindeer. In anticipation of all of the amazing photos I know I'll be taking, I have created a layout with an interactive mini album in the middle of my page. I used one 12x12 sheet of word/phrases paper from the new 'Very Merry' line (Dec Club Q). Then I cut out the 4 corner squares to frame photos. To create the mini album I used a 3x9 piece of paper and scored it at every 3 inches. I decorated the cover and added a pull tab. I used a circle plastic frame and wrapped ribbon around it to showcase the date. I added a little glitter & liquid glass to various parts of the paper to make it pop.

I created this double page layout using the contents from the gorgeous Dec Club Q. Each month I say it's my new fave only to be topped by the next month's kit. My only additions were a few scraps from the 'Merry Go Round' paper line and some Petaloo flowers. I love pages that allow for multiple photos :) I feel like I get more bang for my buck, so to speak.

Quick Quotes Blog Hop Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of the QQ Design Team Blog Hop.

I created 2 projects for today. The first project is a card where I combined the Cherry Truffle papers & French Quarter papers to create a friendship card.

My second project for today started off as a packaged layout kit from Quick Quotes - 'Simple Joys'. I put my own spin on it and here is my finished project. The layout had many more flowers but since I was tailoring it to be a boys page, I removed some of the flowers and I added some hardware embellishments like the brads & photo anchors. I used an acrylic stamp to add the word 'months.' All of the distressing was done with the QQ powderpuff chalking inks (a must-have scrapping supply).

I created my tag to be an interactive piece. This way I could journal about Ethan's milestones at 8 months old. I am creating his 1 year album and am trying to keep up the best I can. The rest of his album can be found in the tab at the top called 'Ethan's 1st Year Album'.

This page features the new QQ line "Copper Kettle". All items on this page were included in the Monthly Kit Club for Nov except for the frosted flourishes in the corner.

'Pumpkin Time'

LISA - 'Pumpkin Time'

Featuring 'Copper Kettle' QQ papers. We picked out our pumpkin fairly late in the season and I am glad we did. I am loving these photos with the new papers, so my procrastination with pumpkin picking must have been meant to be ;) I combined pieces of the altered art kit of the month, with the page kit to create my double page layout. I punched my own holes in the large black frame to add some pops of ribbon. I chalked my 'T-I-M-E' chipboard title in Mocha Mama chalking ink. I love the mix of papers, vellum, quotes & brads that were included in the Nov Club Q pack. (PS - the pumpkin diecuts are from the Oct Club Q kit.)

Altered Box & Card

I created this card with the Julie Je t'amie papers, QQ chalking ink in Tahiti & Purple passion, and Petaloo flowers. I used my Grand Caliber machine by Spellbinders to cut & emboss my 'happy birthday' tag.

I just bought a new flat iron and decided to keep the box it came in and alter it. Right now it is storing my other flowers but I may use it as a gift box for an upcoming birthday. This was created with Julie Je T'amie Quick Quotes papers & Tahiti chalking ink. Then I finished it off with 'gorgeous' Petaloo flowers and ribbon.

'Happiness' Altered mini canvas

I fell in love with the B&W papers in this Teresa Collins collection for theOct Club Q. I gave my canvas a fun pop of color by using QQ Chalking ink in Tahiti & Radiant Rain shimmer mist in 'teal.' I loved how QQ owner, Stacy, designed the altered kit to include a shadow box. That inspired me to take it one step further and actually cut a hole in the front of my canvas.

These are pics from the Palm Springs Private Reserve and I printed them on site using the Canon Selphy printer. It was my first time trying it and I must say that it was 'FABULOUS.' You could print a whole 4x6 or even print up to 8 pictures on one 4x6 sheet. I am always trying to find ways to print small photos and this let me do it on the spot without a computer.

I lined the hole of the canvas with a white ribbon that I inked in Tahiti. This picture also shows some of the misting on the canvas.

This layout was created using the Oct Quick Quotes CLUB Q kit of the month. They partnered with Teresa Collins this month so that's what papers you see below. Her new papers scream fall and I'm loving it.

This picture captures one of the many precious moments between my two boys. Nolan is loving and gentle with his baby brother. I couldn't ask for them to have a better relationship at this point.

I distressed the edges of my orange paper and added a pull out tag for journaling beneath my picture.

QQ layout sketch challenge (9/23-10/5)

Today starts the beginning of the next Quick Quotes challenge. For this challenge I created my very first sketch. I should clarify: I created it on paper and Melin Beltran helped me to change it over in photoshop. I need to practice with that program more.

I used the stars as masks to add glimmer mist. Then I wiped them off and used staz on to ink the edges of the acrylic.

This pic shows my embellishment cluster. I used the new QQ alphabet & phrases. I made my flower from a 1" piece of left over paper. I cut the edge with scalloped scissors, folded it back and forth, then glued the two edges together.

Mini's galore

Since becoming part of the QQ Design Team I have fallen in love with mini albums. I used to find them intimidating, but now I adore them! :)

I loved the altered mini book that came in the Sept Club Q kit (Quick Quotes' Monthly Kit Club). Since there were so many awesome pages, I decided to take mine and turn it into 2 separate projects. One for me to keep and one to give to a co-worker.

Above is where I trimmed & added a transparency overlay to one of my chipboard pages.

All items used were from the Sept Club Q Altered Project kit with the addition of a few diecut flowers & transparencies from the Sept Club Q page kit.

'Thank You' Goodie Bag (Peachy Keen Stamps Blog Hop)

So glad you hopped on over. I hope you are enjoying this fabulous hop featuring Quick Quotes products & Peachy Keen stamps! You should have arrived here from Angelica's stop. If you need to start at the beginning please go to the Peachy Keen blog.

I was lucky enough to work with this uber cute 'Thank You' sentiment and Lady Bug stamp set from Peachy Keen. I wanted to think outside the traditional Thank You card, so I created a goodie bag instead.

I cut a circle out of the front portion so you could 'peek' at the goodies inside.

This A-Frame allows the Goodie Bag to be attached inside while sitting up on any table.

To make the lady bug pop I double stamped her, cut out one of the bodies and added it on top using puffy tape. I also added liquid glass to her spots to make them shine.

GOODIE BAG HOW TO:

I cut out a piece of paper that was 10x5,” then I scored it at 4”, 5,” and 6”. This gives it a ‘bottom’ to sit upright. Decorate your front cover, then cut a window so the ‘goodies’ can show through. For my circle I used my Fiskars circle cutter which allows me to adjust the circle size from 1”-8”. The circle on my project is about 2 ½”. Then I just added a baggie of candy to the inside.

STAMPING TIP: When I stamp images I like to put a piece of foam under my paper. This way your ink transfers more evenly and you won’t have missing parts of the image.

Back-to-School! (QQ Friday Challenge)

It's that time of year when all of the kiddos head back to school. Nolan started back on Aug 1, 2011 for his second year of Pre-School at Kid's Cottage. Check out his first day photos on the layouts below :)

To create these layouts I used Quick Quotes "My Michelle" papers. I also include a piece of lined school paper on each layout to complete the back-to-school feel :) I used the journaling block & S "silly" from the QQ alphabet & quotes from the 'Savvy Davvy' line. Also included is various chipboard letters, and alphabet ribbon.

Ethan's 6 mon layout

Items used: Sept Club Q items, Bloody Mary chalking ink,Vintage alphabet quote sheet, white doily from Aug Club Q.

Details: I distressed my white doily by chalking it in Bloody Mary and then adding Glimmer Mist in 'Chocolate covered Cherries.' I used the Vintage alphabet to cut out the 'E' and also put a vintage quote behind a piece of acetate. I used glitter in many places on this layout which I will show you below.

Glue pen + liquid glue:

To get this look I added liquid glue behind the flower acetate (add glue to the duller side). Then I layered on 3 different colors of glitter from PK Glitz. To create Ethan's name: I cut out the E from QQ's Vintage alphabet and then wrote the rest of his name with a glue pen. I sprinkled glitter on top and used PK Glitz's static free brush to clean up my layout.

I also used the glue pen to write '6 months' and then added black glitter on top. This picture shows the folding of my ribbon and also a line of black glitter across the bottom border. To create this look I used a skinny tape adhesive (many out there are made for glitter) then added my glitter on top.

4th Birthday FUN!!! (double page layout)

DESCRIPTION/TIPS: I created this layout for Nolan's 4th birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. I love the bright colors in the Savvy Davvy papers and I was able to highlight the '4' by putting some green bling around it! For page #1 I sectioned it into thirds and used a border punch down each side of my three pieces of paper. I tied into page #2 by using the same border punch in the opposite direction.

ITEMS USED: Savvy Davvy papers, Savvy Davvy Alphabet & quotes/phrases ("keep the good times rolling"), QQ vellum, QQ glitter chipboard, QQ green bling. Other items: Heidi Swapp small green bling, Marth Stewart 'cherish' punch around the page.

I had yet to create a project with a banner

but I was loving all of the projects I was seeing with them.

Here is my project for this challenge:

QUICK TUTORIAL: Banners range from complex to pretty basic. For my basic banner I used my circle punch on two different patterned papers, cut them in half, and 'voila'... I had my banner. I have also seen ladies use this same technique with a scalloped circle. I sewed my banner on, but baker's twine also looks great!

DESCRIPTION: this layout shows my hubby & 4 year old son on a sea plane (aka float plane). My husband just finished his private pilot's license, so airplanes are a big part of our lives.

ITEMS USED: Quick Quotes "By the Bay" papers <- these are a bit older but they are still one of my all-time favs. QQ vellum, QQ ribbon, QQ Blue Hawaiian chalking ink. Martha Stewart 'Cherish' punch, brads.

Brothers - Travel Tag

I used the Aug Club Q kicker project (travel tag) and rather than gluing the front & back together I turned it into a free standing small photo display. I had this photo taken of my two boys about a month ago and thought this would be a perfect way to display it! (This is a made-in-minutes idea!)

Items used: Aug Club Q kicker project, Frosted Flourishes 'flowers', Bloody Mary QQ chalking ink. Both of the ribbons were from the Aug Club Q kit.

"Summer" Double Page Layout

One of my favorite parts about being on the QQ design team is having all of this great inspiration around at all times. This layout was created after I saw what two of the other team members created this month (Jen & Theresa). I took bits of each of their layouts and created my own seen here :)

Bryan took Nolan up to Canada for a family reunion this summer while I stayed home with the baby. Here are just a few of their pics from their time up there. Fishing, hiking, games, family & tons of fun!

This was created using the items that came in the Aug Club Q kit (Quick Quotes' monthly kit club). This kit features the Cherry Truffle paper line.

School Days (Quick Quotes # challenge)

Ordering Nolan's very first school pics was a bittersweet moment for me. He is growing up way too fast. These are his Spring school pics (I need to make room for the new ones coming soon). On these layouts I wanted to document some of the milestones & favorites of the 2010-2011 school year. On the second part of the layout I included his "TOP 5" - top 5 favorite things & top 5 things he learned.

Using the new 'Savvy Davvy' Quick Quotes papers

Tips/techniques on these layouts: To create the textured stars I first cut out star shapes (tracing the green edges in pen so it would pop) then I ran it through my Fiskars crimper. For the borders around the pictures I used chipboard shapes from Technique Tuesday and traced the shape onto coordinating paper. I covered a plastic slide in coordinating paper and stamped his age inside. The childhood quote & chipboard tag that it's attached to is from QQ. On the second page I documented his top 5 things he learned and top 5 favorite things. I trimmed down a paper to 8.5 x 11 and ran it through my regular printer. The title "top 5" was embossed with red powder. And of course you can't forget that I inked just about 'everything' in QQ powderpuff inks in Maraschino Cherry or Tahiti.

Engagement Canvas

My one and only sister is engaged - woohoo!!!

I created this altered canvas as an engagement present for her and her fiance.

Detail shot of the inking/glimmer mist.

I inked the edges of the canvas in QQ Mocha Mama as well as the frames. Then I added some glimmer mist to the lower frame for an extra kit. The 'our story' tag pulls out for her to journal about the proposal.

Ethan - 5 mon

My kids are my favorite people to scrapbook! Sound familiar? I made it a goal with each of my boys to create a 1st year album. You can follow my progress with Ethan's album under the tab at the top to see all of my layouts in his book so far :) He turns 6 mon tomorrow (Tues 8/2) and I just finished his 5 mon layout - woohoo!!! I am really trying hard to stay on top of it!

Items Used: Quick Quotes 'Cherry Truffle' papers + QQ 'Bloody Mary' chalking inks + QQ chipboard frames & corrugated chipboard. The coordinating brads you see in the pic I created myself with my i-top brad maker from Imaginisce. It is my new favorite tool.

I LOVE pink/black/white. My QQ Chalking Inks are my favorite & most used item in my space, next to my paper trimmer (and I'm not just saying that because I'm on the DT) :) My fav current paper line is QQ's Savvy Davvy because I love the fun, summery colors.

Layout Holds Up to 15 photos

The papers are from the “Savvy Davvy” line made by Quick Quotes. On this layout I used QQ’s Chalking Inks in Blue Hawaiian, Maraschino Cherry, Limeade & Tahiti to ink my papers and chipboard pieces. For the ‘SUMMER’ chipboard letters I stamped on it with polka dots and then embossed in a light blue. The ‘flip flops’ vellum quote is from QQ as well. The green flip flops at the top of the book I made myself by cutting out paper and adding ribbon for the straps. The border was created with a Martha Stewart punch around the page (Double Arches). 'Live out loud' glitter chipboard pieces were also used inside the mini album.

I cut (7) 4x6 pieces of paper and scored them at ¼”. The scored area creates the binding of your mini album and that is where you glue the pages together. Punch holes down the binding and add ribbon to create your desired look.

NOTE: you don’t glue the mini-book down to your layout until it has been filled with photos and you have your page protector. To add it to your page, slide the background page into the protector then simply hold the book on top of the page protector where you want it to go. Use an exacto knife to cut along the left-hand edge of the book. The very back page of the book will slide in through the slit while all of the other pages remain on the outside so they are interactive. I put glue on the back of the very last page to hold it in place =)

VOILA – you have an instant mini album and a page that can hold tons of photos.

I have been setting goals for myself to participate in more online scrapping challenges. One of my favorite forums is Scrapbooks.com and one of the challenges I signed up for was to scraplift a LO from the person who signs up ahead of you. This was created based on the inspiration of another great scrapper, 'AprilButterfly,' with my own twists of course :)

This pic shows how I bent my green border to give it a wave/3D feel. (Thanks to Quick Quotes Design Team member Adora for this awesome idea) I used glue-dots to hold the folds in place. This pic also shows close-ups of the polka-dot and blue papers that have been distressed with one of my favorite tools. It is an edge distresser made by Close-to-my-heart which costs less than $3. Love the look it gives!

"Friends" Card (Amy Chomas & QQ Cross Promotion)

This month Quick Quotes partnered with Amy Chomas to see what creations the design team would make with QQ paper and Amy's glitter gel pens & gel pen holder for the cricut. This was my first time using my cricut to 'draw' on paper instead of cut. Her product includes great directions about how to get a smooth flow from the pens to ensure a perfectly written sentiment or design.

I call this a peek-a-boo card. I cut two windows in the top of the card so you can see some of the gel pen artwork that is on the inside. The easiest way I found to create this type of card is to first use the cricut & Amy Chomas gel pens to write a sentiment on background paper. Then you can trim your paper to the size needed for the card. This way you can trim around the writing and be sure your writing will be centered. Then I measured where I needed the holes to be and cut the top of the card. I used cute paper frames to surround the cuts on the outside. To finish off the outside I added a Quick Quotes PVC frosted dragonfly that I covered in Diamond Stickles. The ribbon was originally white but I inked it in a coordinating color (Purple passion) to match my papers.

Backyard Campout

Adventure comes in all shapes and sizes and the newest adventure for my 3 1/2 year old was camping in the backyard with dad. They had a blast setting up the tent, then getting all of their sleeping gear out & hauled into the yard. Nolan couldn't do without his blue blankie with the elephants (not to be confused with the blue blankie with the bears - 'there is a difference mom') :)

Believe it or not they made it out there through the entire night and are already talking about future outings.

I crimped some of my papers with the Fiskars paper crimper (shown below). I also cut out star shapes, sprayed them with water, scrunched them and let them dry. Once dry, I unfolded them and inked the edges and the folds.

Here is a sneak peak of the newest paper line from Quick Quotes called "Miss Morgan." Deep chocolate browns with pink & a hint of green. 'Love it'!!!

This layout captures my very first flight with my hubby as a pilot. He started his training when he was 15 and it was always a childhood dream to finish up his private pilot’s license. I am so proud of him! The diecut sentiment came from Quick Quotes and could not have been more perfect for this occasion, ‘Come Fly With Me’.

I created two pockets for tags to slide in and out to hold my journaling, including details about the flight and the date. To give the background squares a little extra dimension I sewed a brown border around the edges. Had to dust off the old sewing machine =)

Cassette Case Gift Card Holder (made-in-minutes)

Have just a few scraps of paper left over after making a LO?

Here’s my made-in-minutes idea….

Items needed: 3 scraps of paper, 2 small pieces of ribbon, 1 empty cassette case, rubons or other embellishments.

I used an old cassette case and turned it into a gift card holder. Just add paper to the outside and inside, them embellish as desired.

I used rik rak on the inside and only put glue on the two edges so my card could slide in and out.

"So Proud" Card

Perfect for a grad or a service member. This card was created using Quick Quotes “Just Jackson” papers and coordinating QQ glitter chipboard pieces. I used an EK success punch for the bottom border of the card. I also added liquid glass to a few of the stars to make them stand out. To create some interest with my ribbon I added some liquid glue underneath, scrunched it together & held it until it dried.

"Relaxin' Summer" Chipboard Book

This is a homemade book that you can easily recreate yourself. I cut chipboard squares then used a circle punch in the middle of each page. I then covered each page in “Savvy Davvy” Quick Quotes paper and sandpapered the edges until I could see the white core. I used my crop-a-dile to punch a hole in the upper left corner of each page and attached a metal ring covered with ribbon pieces. To finish off the book I embellished each page with rub-ons, paper flowers, & bling. The cover included QQ chipboard phrases which I inked with “Maraschino Cherry” & “Tahiti” inks and then added Diamond Stickles on top.

"Live, Laugh, Love" Bouquet - created using the "My Michelle" paper line from Quick Quotes

Project HOW TO:

Materials needed: 2 foam balls, a wooden dowel, flower pot, corsage pins, paper & chalking inks.
#1 Cut a 3" circle. Beginning at the edge, cut in a spiral pattern getting a wider width as you move towards the center.

#2 Ink, ink, ink :) Ink all edges of both sides of the paper in a coordinating QQ chalking ink color.

#3 Roll the spiral tightly toward the center of your flower trying to keep the bottom edge even as you roll. When you reach the middle, allow the flower to open slightly, then add a drop of liquid glue (Beacon's 3 in 1) to the very bottom.

#4 Pin your flowers into the foam ball using corsage pins. Embellish as desired.

Nolan the Photographer

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw tons of blurry photos of the family all taken by my 3 year old son. Taking photos is his new hobby and I couldn't pass up the chance to document this moment in time. So here I am embracing the blurry photos :)

I used Quick Quotes paper "Ode to Joy" and stamped on the photos themselves with Close to My Heart acrylic alphabet stamps (Sans Alphabet & Doodle Alphabet). To stamp on photos I like to use 'Stayz On' ink. This is quick drying and won't smudge.

NOTE: Stayz On ink will permanently stain your stamps, but it does not damage them. Be sure to clean them right away and they will continue to work just as well with regular ink for future stamping :)

Baby Shower - diaper cake & paper purses

I also added a few more homemade touches to the shower by building a diaper cake and creating paper purses as party favors to take home.

DIAPER CAKE:

RECIPE:
1 large box of Size 1 diapers (92 count or larger)
3 spools of ribbon
1 round piece of cardboard for the base (cover in aluminum foil or wrapping paper)
*Any embellishments you want. I used 1 package of brightly colored links, 4 pairs of baby socks, 2 pairs of mittens, 1 wrist rattle, 1 travel pack of shampoo/conditioner/baby powder & 1 large rattle for the topper.

Roll each diaper and tie with curling ribbon (this is the most time consuming part). Create your bottom cake layer and hold together with a wide ribbon. Create the next layer slightly smaller than the last. Continue this process until you have your desired amount of layers. Add embellishments.

It is definitely a labor of love but my best friend is worth it! =)

Baby Shower - invites & layout

Yesterday I threw my best friend, Jessica, a baby shower. This is her first baby, which makes it that much more exciting. I decided to create some of the items for the shower myself including the invitations. I tried to keep them pretty simple since I needed to make about 25 of them. The baby carriage & 'oh baby' were sprayed with glimmer mist so it gave it a pretty sparkle. The carriage was also mounted with pop dots. Then I wanted to be sure she was able to keep one as a momento so I also created a double page layout that includes one of the invites. The invite is on the right-hand layout below.

At parties you always have multiple photos, so I included a fold out album on the left-hand layout to hold more photos of the guests from the shower.

QQ May - 6x6 canvas

I wanted to create a small canvas to hang on my wall of daddy & baby. For this project I used a 6x6 thin canvas. I sprayed the canvas with Glimmer Mist and then inked the edges with QQ chalking inks.

For the 2 frames:
I found 2 plastic slides, then cut 2x2 squares of paper. I adhered the paper to the plastic slides, then turned the frames over and marked an X where the hole should be. I then cut along the X with an exacto knife and folded it around the edges. This gave me customized slides with coordinating paper.

PS - I have this hanging on my 'art wall'. I will post some pics of my scrap room later this week! :)

I used more of the Cosmo Cricket Paper provided in the May Club Q kit and also added some paper flowers, buttons & raffia for the stems of my flowers.

I distressed the edges of my brown paper with my Close To My Heart distresser (love that tool)!!! Then used my fav Mocha Mama QQ ink for the edges of my cardstock.

This month QQ has partnered with Cosmo Cricket. The kit came packed full of pre-cut circles which I used to create my own layered flowers. I will include a short tutorial on how you can get this same look :)

Layered flowers:
Step #1 - select 2 circles of different sizes
Step #2 - spray both sides with water
Step #3 - scrunch/crinkle the circles and allow them to dry completely
Step #4 - carefully unfold, adhere together and add a brad or button to the center
Voila!!! You now have customized DIY flowers!

Blog redesign

Welcome to my newly redesigned blog!!! Yippee... it was about time!!! I did a little research on changing my blog and found shabbyblogs.com. If you are looking for a DIY project for your blog, definitely check them out. They even have 'how-to' video tutorials which make changes very simple ;) Check out my site and let me know what you think.

Things still to do:

Crazy Lisa fact: I was a computer science major my freshman year in college (yikes I know). So some of the html actual makes sense to me - lol!!!

Club Q Alternate Designs for April

This month QQ introduced their newest paper line called "Damsel in Distress." Since I am surrounded by boys, I sometimes find it hard to take the 'girly' papers and turn them into pages I can use for the men in my life. In my alternate designs for this month on my two page layout I steered clear of the flourish side of the papers and used the more masculine stripes for a daddy & sons layout. Then I created a one page layout with the flowery side that I plan to use as a heritage page with great grammie & the boys.

These particular papers also reminded me of celebrations such as an anniversary or wedding, so I also created 2 cards to use for occasions such as these. ENJOY!!!

"Just Like You" (father & sons layout)
I left the two tags and chipboard in the bottom corner empty for me to add journaling later.

Chipboard Embellishment Idea - take regular chipboard and stamp a design on top of it or use metal tools to imprint a design on the chipboard before adding distressing ink.

"Daddy's Boy" poem - what a perfect addition for this page. Sometimes a vellum quote sums up everything you are thinking and feeling to add special sentiments to a page.

"For Keeps" Heritage Layout
The "for keeps" tag can be glued down to the page or you could cut a slit in the page protector to create an interactive sliding piece and add journaling to it. There are also 3 flowers pre-printed at the bottom of this paper. To make them pop a bit more I took a second sheet of the same paper and cut out the 3 flowers. Then I folded the edges slightly and glued them on top of the initial paper. It is hard to see in the pictures, but it definitely adds a lot to the bottom of this layout :)

"Celebration" card
Inside the frame you could add a picture of the happy couple for a wedding or anniversary.

"Enjoy the little things" card
I see this as a perfect card to send a friend after a day of hanging out or just to let them know they are loved.

The accordian book & 'how to' directions:

How to: cut a 3x9 piece of paper and score every 3". Accordian fold the paper so it opens to the right. You need to have a page protector before adding it to your completed page. Insert your completed page into the protector, then place the folded book on top of the protector where you want it to be positioned. Use an exacto knife to cut along the right side of the book. Add glue to the very page of the book, then carefully slide it into the protector. This way only the bottom of the book is under the protector and the other 2 folds are on the outside and interactive.

Quick Quotes Club Q redo (Jan)

Jan Club Q re-design. This month's kit used the new paper line called "Live Out Loud." I love all of the bright colors. My scrapping resolution is to include more journaling on my pages. For my first layout I left room in the upper right corner of the first page to add in journaling. Then for my second layout I used a stamp to create journaling lines in the lower left-corner. Pictures speak a thousand words, but sometimes 'real words' are needed to help you remember life's precious moments.

This is a 12x12 canvas that is 1" thick. It can either be hung on the wall or displayed with a stand.

Quick Quotes - Aug Club Q Re-design

It has been a while since I've posted. We were out of the country for a few weeks, then school started back up. I've finally had a chance to sit down and scrap a bit and boy did it feel good :)

Here you will see a few of the designs I've created using the Quick Quotes Scrapbooking Company kit of the month for August. I have taken their products and added just a few of my own items I already had at home to put my personal touch on them.

Included is a single page layout of my son's first day of preschool. I got the idea to create a large apple from a magazine, then changed up their layout to be my own. I drew one side of the apple 'free-hand', then traced it onto a second piece of paper so both sides would match. Beneath that layout are two double page layouts of different parts of our Canada vacation. At the bottom is an altered chipboard mini album, very simply made since it's for my son. It will give him a few snapshots from this stage in his life "Me", "My house", "My family", "My teacher", etc.

SCRAPPIN at Ronda's
One of my favorite parts of scrap night during the first week of each month at Ronda's house is picking up my order from the previous month. It's like getting a new present each time I go out scrapping.

Last month part of my order included this "Splendor" paper pack from Close to my Heart. It is very whimsical with the clouds and flowers. I created two cards with it so far including an anytime card and a b-day card. I am also half way done with a two-page layout which I will post once it's finished.

On both cards I included a piece of embossed card stock that I created with my cuttlebug embossing folders. I like to sand them to make the words/pattern show through a bit better. Also on card #1 I first stamped the flowers in a white ink, then chalked over them lightly so each flower could be a different color.

June Club Q: re-design

I have been fortunate enough to be one of 4 lucky ladies chosen to re-design the monthly kits sent out by Quick Quotes. Each month Quick Quotes sends out page kits and/or a canvas kit. We've been charged with taking these same products that are sent out and doing entirely different projects with them.

I hope you enjoy my creations with their 'Paint It Black' papers. :)

I have included two single page layouts, one double page layout, a card (with a canvas front) and an altered frame. Feel free to click on any image and it will enlarge the size to see the details a bit better.

For this first layout I used the die cut 'dream' and cut each letter apart to create individual tags. I also cut some of the die cut flourish apart to use it as separate pieces.

For my second layout I decided to take the die cut flower border and cut it into three pieces. Two of the pieces you will see along the edges of this page. The center row of flowers I cut into individual flowers to help embellish some of my other pages.

For this double page layout, on page 2, I created 3 pockets which will allow for multiple photos to slide in and out. I used ribbon or a scallop to top off each pocket and added rub-ons in the bottom corner.

With the canvas I created a large card. I used my crop-a-dile to punch holes down the left side and tied the binding together with ribbon. On the inside I created a small pocket with a bookmark for the recipient to use. I 'love' the vellum quote on the bookmark - it makes me laugh.

With my remaining pieces of paper I created an altered frame. I found this wooden frame at Michael's for $1. What a bargain! :)

"Play" - Made in minutes

I absolutely love that many companies are now creating entire 12x12 pieces of paper that are diecut for you. It adds extra dimension and pop to any page. For this layout I used Crate Paper's 'Seasons' line and just added a few chipboard embellishments. Cute layouts don't always have to take hours.

This is Nolan's new playhouse. It was an early gift from Great Grammie for his 3rd birthday.

New addition to my scrap room

So I am officially out of photos to scrap. I have scrapped every event up through last weekend - sickening I know. In the meantime I decided to try to find a way to display some of my art in my office. About a week ago, Jess and I went out scrapbooking and stopped at a scrap store in Yorba Linda that was going out of business. They were selling display racks, slatwall, gridwall, etc. It was the perfect opportunity to add to my room.

I purchased three 1'x5' gridwall panels and lots of hooks. (total under $20) Now I am able to display some of my recent work and easily change it out with new stuff. I am super thrilled about the new addition. (Big thanks to my hubby for being patient during the hanging up process - lol.)

"Laugh Often" 16x20 canvas

I hope everyone is having a fabulous Memorial Day weekend. I was able to spend this morning scrapping with my best friend, Jess. Here is the canvas I created today. I don't have pictures for it yet but I was too excited to wait to post.

The paper line is from Crate Paper and is called 'Seasons.' I found the canvas at Michael's on sale, two for $5.99. Canvas comes in various sizes. This particular one is 16x20. Since scrap paper is only 12x12 you have to be a bit creative to cover up any seams.

I used my cricut machine to create my diecut words and large frame on the left. I made the bottom portion a pocket so my tags could stick out of it. To make a pocket simply glue on the left side, right side and bottom only. This leaves the top open to slide items into it.

I wanted to add some dimension to the page so I took one row of flowers and punched out various size circles in coordinating paper. Then I trimmed all edges of each circle (so they wouldn't be perfect), sprayed them with water and crinkled them, then set them aside to dry. Once dry you can add a brad and glue them down. I also used pop up tape on 'Laugh Often'.

I will post an update picture of this project once I add my photos. :)

'Dream' Layout

Lately I am loving black and white photos. No matter what paper choice or colors you use, a black and white photo always works on the page. For this simple layout I used one sheet of background and texture paper, then cut a scallop at the bottom of a mesh piece and added it on top.

Flower: I created the flower in the upper right corner by punching 2 circles of various sizes. Take a spray bottle and get each side slightly wet. Fold in all edges and allow to dry. Once dry, add a brad and glue to your page. This is an easy (and inexpensive) way to add a three dimensional element to any page.

Ribbon: I took ordinary black ribbon and using glue dots I turned it into a more interesting embellishment. I simply kept folding the ribbon back on itself and adhered each piece with a mini glue dot.

Even though the page is virtually colorless I find it very appealing and want to work more with gray-scale papers.

My Scrap Room

Welcome to Lisa's scrap store (oops - I mean scrap room). My friends always say that you don't know how serious I am about my hobby until you step foot in my room. I thought it was time to give some of you a peek into my work space.

I found a zebra lamp with pink trim at Bombay Kids and from there this room was born.

Off-center frame

I am a Math teacher by day but a scrapper by night. Usually the left-side of my brain likes things very 'matchy-matchy' but for this layout I tried to switch things up and not cut the frame directly down the middle.

Extra details: spice up a title by taking out any '0' and replacing it with a flower. I also added a rubon on top of the center photo and made the date in the corner pop.

Altered project (acrylic & magnets)

Occasionally I get inspired to create a home decor or altered project. Here is one which was made from 3 square 6x6 pieces. The top and bottom pieces are acrylic and the middle is magnetic. I decorated each square with paper, rub-ons, and bling. For the middle metal piece I took 3 household magnets and glued flowers on top. The magnets allow for easily changing out your favorite photos. To tie them together I punched holes in each one and attached them together with ribbon.

Loving 'crate paper'

At one of the scrapbook expos last year I met the owner of 'Crate Paper' and fell in love with their products. This company is based out of Utah and last year was his first CA show. Their company provides complete coordinated kits (no sample layout ideas) but the kits come with paper, ribbon, rubons, 3-D letters, etc. It is enough to make multiple coordinated layouts. Here are two single page layouts that were created with the "Static" paper line.

For the first page I cut individual pieces of the patterned paper in different lengths and added an embellishment to the end of each (ribbon or brad). I added 3D journaling words to a few of the strips. Then I used a paper distresser along the brown cardstock to make the white core show.

For the second page I tore the paper at the top and bottom of the page to make it look rugged. To the left and right photo backer I added an extra embellishment. To create this look take a square piece of paper, fold two of the corners to meet at the middle, then hole punch each folded portion and add an eyelet. Complete the look by threading ribbon through the eyelets and tie a knot. (no photos for this one yet, but I'm thinking of Mr. Nolan riding his big wheel)

Inspired by Others

Here are a few pages where I was inspired by someone else. Some call it 'scraplifting' but I call it 'loving it and making it your own' :) The pages here were inspired by Close to My Heart original designs. I love the flower in the single page layout. This is created by using a circle punch to create 7 circles. Then you fold two sides about 1/3 of the way in and glue down. Leave one circle whole and glue the 7 folded pieces to this circle to create your flower. Add a brad to the middle and 'voila' you are done. (CTMH design idea)

The second layout has a pullout feature for journaling. To add this to your album and make the journaling accessible: Once I put the layout in my page protector I will cut a small slit in the protector using an exacto knife so that the journaling can slide in and out. The majority of the tag will be on the outside of the protector when I am finished.

The paper line is from Crate Paper and is from their "Blue Hill" collection.

Friendship Card

Here is a card made with leftover papers. At the end of any page layout I try to take the remaining coordinating pieces and turn it into a card. This card uses acrylic stamps from 'Close to my Heart', rub-ons from Quick Quotes, and paper flowers from 'Prima Flowers,' along with a few other embellishments. A little 'bling' goes a long way.

In November of 2009 I was hired by Quick Quotes Scrapbooking Company to help teach their classes around the country at CK and Scrapbook Expo conventions. This is 'very' part-time and only a few weekends a year but is soooo much fun. They are a small family run business and I am blessed to be working with them and their other 'amazing' teacher Michelle Granger.

Some of the perks of the job include seeing their new paper lines before everyone else. Here are a few of my own designs that I've created with their new paper lines "Summertime Blues" and "Mary's Garden."

Double page layout includes a 'scrap-a-lope' where you can store mementos from the event/occasion. Pg 2 also has a flip up feature in the middle where you can put an additional photo. The single page layout uses a frame from the Cricut cartridge "Stamping" along with a velum strip at the top.

So I finally accepted the advice of many and have decided to start my own scrapping blog. On this page I will show my art work, talk about techniques, and hopefully help inspire others to create their own works of art. All designs are my own unless otherwise stated :)

Let me preface my blog by saying that I have more finished pages than I have photos. I get inspired by a color scheme or idea and off I go creating a page without a particular picture in mind. Some of my pages are awaiting the perfect picture, so please bear with me if some of the photos of my layouts are devoid of any pictures.

I'm ready for the 'blog' adventure and I hope you'll join me.
